Shrevewood PTA Fundraising

Supporting our students, strengthening our community

Why We Fundraise

The Shrevewood PTA fundraises to bridge the gap between the money our school needs and the money our school gets. We fundraise because we understand that the school district does not provide all the programs and resources we believe are important for our children's success. Funds raised go directly back into the school to support academic programs, enhance classroom technology, provide educational enrichment activities, and organize community-building events.

Your Impact Matters

The success of our PTA and the positive impact we have on Shrevewood Elementary depend on the generosity and involvement of our families. We understand that not everyone is able to contribute in the same way, and we value every form of support. With over 40% of our students reported as economically disadvantaged and the impact of federal cuts in our area, the needs within our school community are significant. For those who are able, your generous contributions are especially impactful and allow us to continue providing these essential programs and resources, ensuring that every child at Shrevewood has the best possible educational experience. Please consider joining our PTA, volunteering your time, or making a donation to help us reach our goals. Together, we can make Shrevewood an even better place for our children.

How it Benefits Our Community

Your contributions enable us to:

1
Make School Improvements: Fund programs and equipment that create a better learning environment.
2
Enrich Student Experiences: Offer assemblies, field trips, and extracurricular activities that broaden horizons.
3
Providing Resources for Our Community: Contribute to books at the book fair and snacks for students who can't afford them and support monthly new student breakfasts to welcome new families.
4
Appreciate Our Staff: Show our amazing teachers and staff how much we value their dedication through appreciation events and support.
5
Build a Stronger Community: Organize events that bring families together, fostering a sense of belonging and collaboration.

Our Commitment to You

The Shrevewood PTA is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We have a profound responsibility to be transparent and accountable with the funds you entrust to us, ensuring they directly benefit our students, teachers, and school community. Our fundraising efforts are a tool to finance programs that enrich students' education, support our teachers, promote equity, and foster a stronger school community.

Beyond fundraising, we actively seek business sponsorships, apply for grants, and request in-kind donations to expand our impact. We have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interest of our association. This means we are resourceful, sustainable, and always mindful of the financial burden on our families. We strive to make events accessible to all, limit transaction fees, and only make purchases necessary to fulfilling our mission.

Your voice is essential. We welcome your input to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students and families. We will vote on our annual budget at the first PTA meeting of the year and we will share a treasurer's report every month. If you ever have questions or concerns, please reach out to us at board@shrevewoodpta.org.

If you would like to get involved, please:

Together, we're building a stronger community for our children's future.

Support our Classrooms

Teacher wish lists are a way for parents and community members to support our educators by providing them with the supplies and materials they need to create engaging and effective learning environments. These wish lists typically include items that go beyond what the school budget can cover, such as books, art supplies, educational games, and classroom tools. By contributing to these wish lists, you are directly enhancing the educational experience for our students and helping teachers bring their creative ideas to life. Every contribution, big or small, makes a meaningful difference in our classrooms.

See below for a list of items teachers would love for their classrooms. If you don't see a wish list for a specific teacher or it is not linked, reach out to your room parent to see if they've created one.

What is Dining for Dollars?

Get ready for a delicious and easy way to support Shrevewood! With Dining for Dollars, the Shrevewood PTA teams up with local restaurants on special days. When you dine in or take out and mention our fundraiser or show a flyer, the restaurant donates a portion of your bill back to our school! It's a fantastic way to help fund school programs, events, and classroom needs.

Think of it as a perfect excuse to skip cooking and enjoy a meal out while giving back. Want to make it even better? Invite friends or other Shrevewood families to join you! Share a meal, catch up, and support our school together – it's a win-win!

Wednesday, December 3, 4-8PM

Grab dinner at Panera Bread (450 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA) on Wednesday, December 4, from 4:00 to 8:00PM. Use code FUND4U at panerabread.com, in the Panera App, or at the kiosk in-cafe and Shrevewood PTA will receive 30% of net sales. Show the flyer below to your cashier when ordering at the cafe to ensure your organization gets a portion of the net sales.

Become a Shrevewood PTA Sponsor!

The Shrevewood PTA invites you to become a business sponsor for the 2025-2026 school year. Your support is vital, enabling us to fund social-emotional learning programs, provide assemblies for students, and contribute to classroom enhancements and materials.  We also host community building events throughout the year and show our staff and teachers how much their work is valued. 100% of your donation goes directly back to our students and teachers.

Why partner with us?

  • Direct Impact: Every dollar you donate goes straight back to supporting our students and teachers.
  • Positive Exposure: We offer three levels of sponsorship, each with opportunities to feature your business to our school community.
  • Community Connection: Your partnership will highlight your business as a key supporter of local education.

Thank you for considering this opportunity. To learn more or to become a sponsor, please contact us at board@shrevewoodpta.org.

Big thank you to our sponsors!

Give Your Spirit Wear a Second Chance!

Introducing the Shrevewood PTA's new eco-friendly initiative to share our Owl pride.

Has your Owl outgrown their favorite Shrevewood t-shirt? Did you find a spirit day hoodie from two years ago hiding in the back of the closet?

Don't let that gear end up in a landfill! The Shrevewood PTA is excited to launch our new Second Chance Spirit Wear Shop. This program collects gently used, pre-loved spirit wear to give it a new life with another student, promoting sustainability and community right here at our school.

It's Easy to Donate!

Ready to clear out your closets and help a fellow Owl? Here’s all you need to do:

  1. Gather Your Gear: Collect any official Shrevewood t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other spirit wear that your student no longer wears.
  2. Ensure It's Clean: Please make sure all items are washed and in good, gently used condition.
  3. Drop It Off: Drop off items at the front office.

Why a Second Chance?

This program is about more than just t-shirts; it’s about building a stronger, more sustainable community.

  • 🌎 Reduce & Reuse We want to keep our beloved Shrevewood gear out of landfills. Reusing clothing is one of the best ways to reduce waste and care for our planet.
  • 💙 Share the Spirit The shop will provide an affordable and accessible way for all our Owls to show their school pride. It helps ensure every student can participate in spirit days.
  • 🤝 Strengthen Our Flock Passing items on from one Owl family to another is a wonderful way to build connections, help each other out, and strengthen our school community.

Donation Guidelines: What We Accept

To make the shop a success, please only donate items that another family would be happy to receive.

We gladly accept:

  • ✅ Shrevewood Elementary T-shirts
  • ✅ Shrevewood Sweatshirts & Hoodies
  • ✅ Other official Shrevewood-branded apparel (e.g., socks, hats)

Please ensure all items are:

  • Clean and washed
  • In good condition (no major rips, tears, or large stains)

Stay Tuned to Shop!

Thank you to everyone who donates! Our first step is to build up our inventory.

Once we have collected a great selection of spirit wear, the Second Chance Spirit Wear Shop will be open at select PTA events, including our Fall Fun Fair. Keep an eye on the PTA newsletter for our official shop opening dates!

Thank you for helping us make Shrevewood a more sustainable and spirited community, one t-shirt at a time!

Our Spirit Wear web store is open! Order your t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, and pajama pants now through Friday, September 12. Visit shop.burkesports.com and enter the group code: OWLS.

If you have any questions, contact Susan Kennedy at sekenn318@gmail.com.

Unlock the Block Fundraiser Header

It's time for our direct donation fundraiser and we're inviting you to be a part of it. The direct donation fundraiser is a simple way for our community to raise money for our school. You know that fundraiser we used to call "The Armchair Fundraiser"? Well, we've unlocked a new name this year—welcome to "Unlock The Block!" And the best part? Still no wrapping paper or popcorn sales! It means 100% of your money will directly benefit the students at Shrevewood.

The Shrevewood PTA wants to ensure all Shrevewood students have the resources they need to succeed this year. These resources include:

  • new instruments for music class
  • art supplies for art class
  • updated equipment for P.E. class
  • a new social and emotional learning (SEL) curriculum
  • funding to make sure all kids can participate in field trips
  • assemblies throughout the school year
  • community-building events
  • teacher grants and staff appreciation events

The Shrevewood PTA is committed to bridging the gap between the money our school needs and the money our school gets. With budget cuts and reductions from FCPS, there is a greater need to close the gap this year. This total gap amounts to about $30,000.

Our Unlock the Block Direct Donation Fundraiser Goal
$15,000

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Direct Donation?

There are many advantages to a direct donation fundraiser like Unlock the Block:

  1. 100% of the donation goes directly to the education initiatives budgeted and funded by the PTA
  2. The kids (and parents) don't have to sell anything
  3. The donation is tax deductible (our PTA is a 501(c)(3) organization)
  4. It's eligible for corporate matching gifts
  5. Has lowest expenses and the least amount of volunteer time of ALL fundraisers
  6. Your contributions are confidential

What does the Unlock the Block Fundraiser pay for?

Every year, the PTA board and administration team discuss the needs for the upcoming school year and determine a budget. The PTA budget is presented and voted on by PTA members in the fall. You can participate in voting on this year's budget at our first PTA meeting by becoming a member.

Last year, the PTA spent $52 per student. These funds went to school shirts for all students and staff, teacher grants, our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, staff appreciation, school assemblies, providing support for families in need, and putting on events like our Back to School picnic, movie nights, Bingo night, the talent show, the 6th grade promotion party, and providing pizza for the entire school at field day.

PTA Budget Breakdown

This year we are hoping to continue supporting our teachers with grants, funding our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, staff appreciation, school assemblies, providing support for families in need, and putting on events like our movie nights, Bingo night, talent show, the 6th grade promotion party, etc. We will also be supporting our specials classes with new P.E. equipment, music instruments, and art supplies.

What is our donation goal?

$15,000

Unlock The Block's Fundraising Goal

Our goal is to raise $15,000 to fund everything that makes Shrevewood amazing: art, music, and PE supplies, a new social-emotional learning curriculum, staff appreciation, teacher grants, school assemblies, and field trips where every student can participate.

Here's the exciting part: as we hit fundraising milestones (our "blocks"), we'll unlock awesome rewards for students!

  • At $10,000, a day when students can wear cozy pajamas to school.
  • At $12,000, all classes get extra recess.
  • At $15,000, we reach our goal and the entire school will watch Shrevewood staff race around in inflatable costumes during the school day!

Achievement Unlocked: the two classes with the highest donations earn special outdoor classroom time and treats. Every dollar donated has an impact.

PTA Budget Breakdown

STRETCH GOAL: Hit $30,000 and we're done fundraising for the whole year! Our PTA volunteers can then focus on planning amazing events and activities instead of asking for donations.

How much should I contribute?

This year we need to raise $30,000, or $53 a student (THAT'S $4.42 A MONTH!). Only you know what would be comfortable for your family; we ask that each family contribute what is reasonable and within their means. We know many families aren't able to give so we ask those that can to give generously.

Every dollar counts, so whatever amount works for your financial situation works for us. We thank you in advance for your support of our beloved Shrevewood community.

More ways to think about your support:

One useful guideline is ONE WEEK of what you budgeted for preschool, child care or summer camp.

  • For Kindergarten families, we call this the "One More Week" campaign as we ask the kinder families for a donation that is equal to the weekly tuition you paid to your pre-school or daycare.
  • For Grade 1-5 families, we would appreciate your continuing support of our community.
  • For 6th Grade families, we call this the "Shrevewood Legacy Campaign" as we ask you for a legacy donation to be used for Shrevewood's programs during their last year that will also pay dividends for other kids when your child is promoted to middle school.

How do I contribute to the Unlock the Block Fundraiser?

Giving is easy! Here's how:

  • You can donate HERE with your credit card or using Paypal (there is a 2.69% + $0.49 transaction fee)
  • You can donate via cash or check (NO FEE)
    1. Please complete this form
    2. Place cash or check in an envelope with ATTN: Shrevewood PTA and your child(ren)'s name(s) included. Checks can be made payable to: Shrevewood PTA
    3. Drop off your check at the Shrevewood front office

How do I make a donation for multiple students?

Make a donation for each child and add to the cart. Click Continue Shopping and make a donation for the next student. After you've added all students, click on the Payment Method and Pay.

Multiple Student Donation Instructions

What if I don't want to specify a student's name or class?

Please select N/A at the bottom of the Student Name and/or Class dropdown.

Can grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends donate?

Yes! We encourage you to mention our fundraiser to other family members and friends, and we welcome these donations at any time during the year.

How can I maximize my donation?

Your money can go even further if your company participates in a corporate matching program. Companies in the area like Appian, The Carlyle Group, Danaher, Deloitte, DXC Technology, Ernst & Young, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FTI Consulting, IBM, KPMG, Leidos, Northrop Grumman, Okta, PWC, and West Monroe participate in corporate matching.

If you're unsure whether your company participates, check with your HR department or visit Charity Navigator. These companies set aside annual charitable contribution funds to match their employees' donations to 501(c)(3) organizations dollar for dollar (or more!).

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes! 100% of your contribution is tax deductible. Shrevewood PTA is a 501(c)(3) organization. Our federal tax ID number is 54-1082513.

I still have a question. Who can I contact?

Please contact the PTA board at board@shrevewoodpta.org. We welcome your questions and feedback.
