What did Shrevewood PTA accomplish in the 2024-2025 school year?
The Shrevewood PTA was involved in a variety of activities aimed at enhancing the educational experience for students, planning school-wide events, advocating for important issues, and creating a family-school partnership. Here's a list of activities and initiatives the PTA has been involved in this school year:
Fundraising
- The 2024 Armchair Fundraiser raised over $10,000! Funds raised ensured that the PTA is positioned to support Shrevewood students, community and staff. Funds were used to hold student assemblies, purchase educational materials/classroom supplies, support community outreach and provide community events. Thank you to everyone who donated!
- Thanks to all those who came out in support of our Dining for Dollars events this year at Chipotle, Nando's Peri Peri, Roll Play and Lazy Mike's Deli!
- The Washington Nationals graciously donated a voucher for two tickets to raffle off - this was a fun perk to provide at the end of the year!
Supporting Classroom and School Activities
- The PTA offers reimbursement for up to $100 for each Shrevewood Staff member to purchase supplies and/or equipment for their classroom. As of May 28th, 19 staff members have taken advantage of this offering.
- The PTA sponsored annual membership for the Shrevewood Positivity Project, a character education program that focuses on helping students develop positive relationships and understand the 24 character strengths identified in positive psychology.
- Funding is set aside to help sponsor field trips (ie. paying for buses, aid for students who are unable to pay field trip fees).
- The PTA organizes the Baroody before and after-school enrichment programs.
- The PTA organized and sponsored three assemblies:
- December 18th: An interactive music technology assembly for students with Mix Major
- March 20th: An animal handler introduced a few animal friends during the Zoo-to-You Assembly
- May 5th: Mad Science presented an interactive Fire and Ice Assembly
- The PTA provides a grant to faculty/staff for up to $800 to support a fun and engaging community enrichment event. This funding can be used towards hosting an event at Shrevewood Elementary School in areas such as art, science, technology, math, reading, etc.
- The PTA purchased a deck box to be placed near the school playground. Students may put their lunchboxes, water bottles and/or extra clothing layers in these boxes during recess to keep them clean and organized (and hopefully out of the lost and found).
Community Outreach
- Social events, such as the first day of school donuts and coffee, back-to-school picnic, two movie nights, bingo night and a talent show help build a sense of community and allow families to get to know one another throughout the school year.
- Breakfast snacks and beverages are provided monthly for New Student Breakfasts in order to welcome new Wise Owls to the community and make for a smoother transition for the students.
- The annual Clothing Drive collected gently used clothing for Shrevewood students and families in need. Volunteers folded and sorted piles of donated clothes that were appreciated by the recipient families.
- The annual Holiday Drive collected small gifts, toys, treats and personal care items to donate to Shrevewood students and families in need. This year's supplies filled goodie bags for 40 families!
- During the school year, snacks can be purchased and donated to Shrevewood students through Amazon. There are many students who are unable to bring a daily snack to school. Our snack pantry allows teachers to pull snacks for students in need https://a.co/9n6aOxc. When you purchase snacks through this link, you can select the option to ship them directly to the school.
- The PTA donated 181 $10 vouchers combined for the fall and spring book fairs. Book Fair vouchers allow students in need the opportunity to purchase items from the fair.
- Power Packs are ordered and distributed to Shrevewood students in need. Power Packs include a few meals worth of shelf stable food and beverage items for students to take home each weekend.
- Summer 2025 Kindergarten Play Dates for rising Shrevewood kindergarten students are scheduled for June 21st from 10am-12pm, July 13th from 2pm-4pm and August 9th from 10am-12pm. Come join us at Shrevewood Elementary School's playground to meet other incoming kindergarten families. Water and popsicles will be provided.
Staff Appreciation Week
- The first full week of May was dedicated to providing meals, classroom supplies, notes of gratitude, snacks, treats and fun for our Shrevewood staff.
Support Networks
- Room Parents and 6th Grade Promotion Committee are initiatives that help parents connect and support school and class activities.
Advocacy and Representation
- The PTA represents parents in discussions with school boards, district officials, and local governments about school funding, policies, and other important issues.
Promoting Inclusivity
- The PTA works to ensure that all students, including those with special needs or from diverse backgrounds, receive equal opportunities and support within the school environment.
School Spirit
- In the fall, the PTA provided t-shirts to all Shrevewood students and staff to promote school spirit and participate in themed activities throughout the year.
- The PTA designs and sells school-branded merchandise. Items such as t-shirts, sweatshirts and hats may be purchased to build school pride and raise funds for future activities.
On behalf of the School PTA, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your continued support and dedication to our school. Your involvement, through volunteering, attending meetings, or contributing to various events and fundraisers, makes a meaningful difference in our school community.
It is through your generous efforts and collaboration that we are able to provide enriching experiences, resources, and opportunities for our students.
With lots of fun activities planned for the 2025-2026 school year, we are always looking for volunteers to help with fundraising, teacher appreciation, event planning and more. If you are interested, please reach out to board@shrevewoodpta.org.
Shrevewood PTA General Membership Meetings
Please join us for our PTA meetings (usually held at 6:30PM on the second Tuesday of every other month) in the library of Shrevewood Elementary School. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend, whether you are a member or not. Voting is reserved for members only so make sure you join HERE to let your voice be heard. Childcare will be provided.
NOTE: The PTA will be adjusting its general meeting schedule to be held in-person every other month for the 2025-2026 school year. The hybrid/Zoom option will no longer be offered due to technical difficulties for our online attendees and a desire to focus resources on fostering in-person community connection. The PTA is committed to keeping all families informed through detailed meeting minutes, their website, newsletters, and social media. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the PTA Board at board@shrevewoodpta.org. Your feedback is important to us as we navigate this change.
